The Rudd Report
Our own publication, with free research tools.
Our publication, live
Our own publication and its toolkit: long-form reporting, a daily brief, and forty-four free research tools that need no account. We write it, design it, and build it.
What it does
Our own publication: long-form reporting, a daily brief, and forty-four research tools that are free and need no account.
How it works
Each tool calls a public source directly, among them SEC EDGAR, the global legal entity register, OpenSanctions, certificate transparency logs, the national vulnerability database and the Wayback Machine. Photo metadata and password-breach checks run in the browser, so nothing personal leaves the reader’s machine.
The hard parts
Keeping it fast and accountable with no database and no accounts. Every article is a typed object in the codebase, so publishing is a deploy and the history is the git log.
Built with
Next.js 16 and React 19, D3 and Leaflet for the maps, client-side EXIF parsing. 30 pages, 17 API routes.
